UCAS completion dates for this session

Application Form  - School Completion Dates

Parents and pupils can get full details of how to apply on the Ucas website.  All pupils who intend to apply through Ucas must register on the Ucas website: ucas.com.  To do this you will need the website buzzword for Jedburgh Grammar School which the Pastoral Department will set each year.  During the 6th Year induction days pupils will be given a tutorial on Ucas procedures.  S5 pupils considering applying will be invited to join this tutorial.

For a wealth of information about finance, student welfare and selecting the right course and university or college, register online at www.ucas.com/parents and receive your free copy of the Parent Guide and quarterly email bulletins.

Pupils are strongly recommended to register with Ucas as early as possible and to use their staff mentor and pastoral teacher to help with the application process.  The school Careers Officer is also able to help identify courses appropriate for various careers.

The completion dates for the various application sections are issued to pupils each year but the following information gives a rough guide to when the various sections should be completed.  If pupils are going to miss a deadline for any reason, they should see their pastoral teacher before the deadline to arrange an alternative date.

Personal  -  First Friday in September

Education & Employment -  First Friday in October

Choices  -  First Friday in November

Personal Statement  -   Last Friday in November

In order to allow time for references to be written and applications checked and submitted to Ucas by their deadline, all applications should be electronically sent to pastoral staff by the end of November.

The Ucas deadline for medicine, vet medicine, dentistry, and all Oxford and Cambridge University courses is October 15, and pupils considering any of these courses will need to start the process much earlier.  Certain courses require other tests to be taken outside school. (E.g. medicine –Ukcat) University websites make clear any further requirements.

The cost of the application (£17.00 for 2-5 courses for 2009 entry) varies from year to year and should be ascertained from the Ucas website.  Various other tools, such as course searches and help pages, are available on this website.  Pupils should also make use of the university prospectuses in the careers section of the school library and individual university websites.
